A chieftain or the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Amb. Yusuf Imam popularly known as Ogan Boye, has reportedly been arrested by men of the Nigeria Police Force.

Ogan Boye was reportedly arrested in the early hours on Monday at his residence within the Nasarrawa Local Government Area and whisked away to the State Command Headquarters in Bompai.

Although no reason has been given for his arrest, Imam was likely taken into custody in relation with the recent volatile situation of the political climate in Kano, with skirmishes between suspected supporters of the ruling APC and the opposition NNPP recorded in different areas of the state.

The two groups have recently clashed in different places within Nasarrawa Local Government where the Deputy Governor and APC’s gubernatorial candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and NNPP’s Ogan Boye both hail from.

There have also been clashes between supporters of the two parties in Charanci Ward of Gwale Local Government where the NNPP’s gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf and the APC’s state chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas both hail from.

Abdullahi Abbas, at the flag off of the party’s gubernatorial campaign recently held in Gaya, stated that his party cannot be defeated, and is poised to win next year’s gubernatorial election by hook or crook.

However, the NNPP’s state chairman, Hon Umar Haruna Doguwa while replying to Abbas’ comment, claimed that his party was ready to match the ruling party’s violence and win by hook or crook.

Efforts to reach the State Police Command on Ogan Boye’s arrest have been abortive as its Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa couldn’t be reached on his phone.
