Prof. Adetokunbo dies at age of 89

The former Head of Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, University of Ibadan, Prof Adetokunbo Lucas, has died after a brief illness on Friday.

Prof. Lucas was the first person have received the highest academic honour of the University of Ibadan, an Honorary Fellowship of UI (FUI) in 1995.

He was born in Lagos state in 1931, and has served as a professor of international health in Harvard University.

He was the founding Director of the World Health Organization’s special programme for research and training in tropical disease. He also served as a Chair is Carnegie Foundation, among several other accomplishments.

His colleagues have described him as an outstanding medical scientist that will surely be missed by all those who knew him.
