Alhaji Abubakar Rabiu, a prominent supporter of President Muhammad Buhari, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) (NNPP).
Rabiu was known for celebrating Buhari’s returns from medical trips by slaughtering rams and organising parties.
He reportedly slaughtered at least eight rams to celebrate the president’s eighth consecutive return from a medical trip.
In an interview with journalists following his defection, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the APC administration, claiming that the party had not done enough to make life easier and better for the people.
The prominent politician and businessman has picked nomination form to run for the state assembly under his new party to represent the Dutsin-Ma Local Government constituency.
Rabiu noted that his intention was to help the people in his community.
One of the reasons Rabiu left the APC, according to a close associate who requested anonymity, was the way the ruling was suffocating the political ambitions of its supporters.
He said, “APC has embraced consensus in its primaries and is discouraging and that was why people who have political ambition would believe they have no place in the party.
