The House of Representatives has passed the electoral act amendment bill after the mandatory direct primary clause was revised.
The bill was read for the third time and passed during the plenary session on Thursday.
The House removed clause (84) requiring political parties to only select candidates through direct primaries.
After reaching an agreement with the House of Representatives, the National Assembly will return the bill to the President.
President Muhammadu Buhari had refused to sign the bill, citing concerns about the direct primary clause.
The bill was passed by the senate and lower legislative chamber in July 2021, and it mandated mandatory primary elections for all political parties.
