Bauchi State Government has set a panel to investigate inconsistencies in the state’s workers salary.
The state governor after a meeting with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) appointed the Deputy Governor, Baba Tela, as chairman, and Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Sabiu Baba, as secretary of the new committee to scrutinize the issues and return with a report within four weeks.
The NLC had earlier this month in the state issued a 21-day ultimatum to embark on industrial action if negotiations fail to resume on implementation of the National Minimum Wage.
Labour leader, Danjuma Saleh, after the meeting on Wednesday, said that the governor took their grievances and that they were convinced of his response.
He stated: “We are making a good representation for our members. After this meeting, we are to feed our members back and we believe that the industrial action will be shelved.
“Definitely, we enjoyed the sitting. Many of us got educated – especially in some grey areas of the salary payment. The bone of contention is the salary, though there are issues of LTG, promotion, consequential adjustment and the rest of it.”
According to him, though the governor also lamented on the issue, they believe that the panel headed by the deputy governor will work to put the issue to rest in one month.
Ladan had earlier said that the government was happy that the leadership of the unions and the government were on the same page.
