Security has been beefed up in key places of Kano metropolis with police blocking access to main routes leading to Kano State Government House and the Police Mopol Barracks.

An online newspaper (not Sahelian Times) had earlier on Friday reported that shots were fired at Zone 1 Police Headquarters along BUK Road in ancient city.

The paper said that the terrorists came in three vehicles around 12:30pm on Friday and fired several shots at the building and then zoomed off.

However, the Nigerian Police Force has denied a story making the rounds that suspected terrorists have attacked the Zonal Headquarters of the police force, in Kano.

While reacting, public relations officer of the Zone 1 office in Kano, Abubakar Zayyanu Ambursa denied the said attack. Speaking to our correspondent, Ambursa denied knowledge of any terrorist attack on the office.
”There is nothing like what seems to have been an attack, because I was in my office when I saw the news, and I went to the gate to confirm what was said, but I did not see anything similar to this (what was reported).”

The public relations officer added that there are some special officers normally stationed at the zonal headquarters’ entrance on Fridays and it must have came from them; “There are special officers that we keep on the road every Friday, but even when I went there, they had already finished their work and left the place. Except for the entrance guards that I found, and they also assured me that nothing alarming happened there”.

Sahelian Times reports that there have been heightened concerns in Nigeria after a renewed onslaught on government institutions by terrorists suspected to be members of Boko Haram and ISWAP.
