Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo has been elected as the Peoples Democratic Party’s North West Vice Chairman (PDP).

Gwarzo defeated his opponent, Mohammed Yusuf, by a margin of 426 votes to 313.

The chairman of the North West Congress Electoral Committee, Senator Attah Aidoko Alli, describes the process as free and fair.

Alli pointed out that all other positions were won by consensus.

The party’s North West congress was called off in April due to thugs invading the venue.

The thugs allegedly stole ballot boxes while destroying infrastructure, causing congress to be suspended.

The “imposition” of Gwarzo as the party’s Vice Chairman was reportedly one of the factors that prompted Kano State Former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to defect to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
