Senator Ali Ndume has spent a night in prison for failing to present Albdulrasheed Maina in court, on Monday.
Abdulrasheed Maina, the former Chairman of the Presenditial Reform Task Team (PPRTT), has been on trial over alleged N2 billion pension funds fraud.
Justice Okon Abang had ordered that, the APC Senator who serve as a surety to Maina, to be remanded after the accused failed to appear in court on the day the case was slated for hearing.
A source close to the lawmaker said Ndume was taken to Kuje Correctional Centre around 4 pm, yesterday.
Marcel Oru, a Counsel to Ndume, said the appeal against the remand order will be filed on Tuesday before the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
The Counsel lamented that his client was not given a fair hearing because they had requested for documents to enable Ndume to adequately defend himself.
“We needed the document before the judge to defend our client,” Ndume’s lawyer said.
“That has not been given to us, and fair hearing demands that this should be given to us before the court goes into the issue of forfeiture,” he said.
He said that his client was not reachable as his mobile phones were switched off soon after he was taken away from the court.
Sahelian Times gathered that Ndume will be taken to court on Tuesday in continuation of the trial.
