An Abuja High court is set to declare today its judgment on a case filed by over 17 thousand exco and delegates of All Progressives Congress (APC) at local government level in Kano State, challenging to be recognized as legitimate leadership of the party after its local government congresses.
The verdict, if given in favour of the plaintiffs, will see the Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada’s faction seize the control of the party today, despite that the national leadership of the APC is making frantic effort to achieve reconciliation between the feuding factions in the state.
It could be recalled that the Kano State Chapter of the APC’s congress was marred by tension and parallel congress.
Factional executives would later emerge in the state with Alhaji Haruna Danzago as the party of Senator Ibrahim Shekarau- led faction and Abdullahi Abbas as the chairman backed by the state government.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje led-faction held their congress at Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, while the faction led by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, Senator Barau Jibrin, and House of Representative members, Sha’aban Sharada, Tijjani Jobe, Haruna Dederi, among others held theirs at Janguza town, in the Tofa Local Government Area of the state.
Ganduje endorsed Abdullahi Abbas to return as the party Chairman amid an outcry by the Shekarau led faction and some party supporters.
Speaking shortly after the congress, Ganduje declared that any other congress was illegal, insisting that Sani Abacha Indoor Sports Hall was the only venue recognized by the party’s national headquarters and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, the former Kano State Governor who is also a Senator representing Kano Central District, has since recognized Dandazago as the legal party chairman.
At a different public function in the state, the Senator was accompanied by a factional chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
