Days after Kano state government has agreed to arrange a debate between Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasir Kabara and other scholars in Kano, the legal team of Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasir-Kabara has confirmed that its client is fully ready for the debate.

Barr. Rabiu Abdullahi-Shuaibu, Abduljabbar’s representative, told journalists, at a briefing on Wednesday in Kano, that, “I wish to inform you that I have spoken with my client on the issue of this dialogue to be organised by the state government with other Ulamas in the state, and he told me that he is even eager for the day to come.

“Therefore, I am assuring you that Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasir-Kabara is fully ready and willing to participate even more than the state government.”

The debate was suggested by the Kano State Government, after it had banned him from conducting any religious activities in the state, due to alleged incitement.

In a statement he issued on Feb. 3, the Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, announced the banning of Nasir-Kabara from conducting any religious activity in the state, because the government had alleged that Abduljabbar’s comments during preaching were inciting.

Muhammad Garba also said the government has directed the immediate closure of his mosque and ordered the state Police command, and other security agencies, to ensure compliance with its orders.
