Kano State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Abdullahi Abbas, has accused Senator Ibrahim Shekarau of benefitting only himself and his immediate family since getting the party’s senate seat on a platter of gold.

Abbas claimed that the only time Shekarau assisted the party throughout his stay in the senate was when he donated N100,000 during the Muslim festive season.

“Then why should we associate the party with him?” Abbas asked rhetorically.

Abbas went on to assert that, “Allah helped him (Shekarau), and we helped him by buying a 3-million naira nomination form. As he has already acknowledged, we campaigned for him and funded his campaigns, but he is now enjoying freely with his family, travelling to Dubai, Tanzania etc.”

Abbas boasted that Shekarau has no political relevance because he “could not even secure the votes of his ballot box in the 2019 election.”

While acknowledging that the party leadership is amenable to truce with Shekarau, he emphasized that the senator can leave the party and join forces with Kwankwasiya- warning that he is “kara da kiyashi” and “kunama a wando” (signifying that he can’t be trusted).

“In 2003, Buhari helped him to become a governor but he betrayed him. We are not surprised that he betrayed us for helping him to become a senator,” Abbas claimed in an interview with an international radio station.

Abbas also denied the accusation of snubbing Shekarau, asserting that he personally contacted him several times when there were needs for his presence, but “he would always give an excuse of being out of the country on official assignment.”
