A new dance craze, called the #SilhouetteChallenge has taken over social media apps; notably TikTok, Twitter and Instagram. This is coming a few weeks after dance trends of #Bussitchallenge and #WalkChallenge.

The #SihouetteChallenge is basically where a person poses in front of a source of light, often in a doorway or a window, then cuts to an image of themselves in a stripped image or a silhouette striking the same pose. This is done using a mash-up of Canadian American singer Paul Anka’s 1987 song, “Put Your Head On My Shoulder,” which is later slowed down and transitioned into Doja Cat’s 2019 “Streets.”

The women dance under red lights allowing viewers to only see the silhouettes of their naked bodies.

Even though the red light only shows the silhouette, the wrong shade of red, as observed in some of the videos means people can see more than just a silhouette.

What even makes the trend more alarming are speculations that with the aid of virtual reality, viewers can see beneath the red lights

The challenge comes on the heels of the #bussitchallenge where girls twerked to a mash-up of Kelly’s Erica Banks’ Buss it.

It’s sexual provocation and near NSFW visuals have been a raging issue on social media on the sexualization of women, policing women’s bodies and oversharing on social media.
