Sultan condemns killing of female student in Sokoto, calls for perpetrators’ arrest

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III, has condemned the lynching of a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, (SSCOE) Sokoto.

The Sultan also urged the security agencies to bring the perpetrators of the incident to book. 

The victim identified as Deborah  was killed and her body was set ablaze by her enraged colleagues following her alleged blasphemy against the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (pbuh) on campus.

The Sultanate Council in a  statement expressed dismay over the “unfortunate happenings at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, (SSCOE) Sokoto that led to the loss of life of a female student of the Institution.”

The Sultan further urged all to remain calm and ensure peaceful co-existence among all people of the state and the country. 

In a viral video, some of the college students are seen taking responsibility for the killing.

In the video, a college student is seen holding a matches box, claiming that he used it to set the body ablaze after killing her. 

SAHELIAN TIMES reported that  the students overpowered college security personnel, who took her into custody after the story of alleged blasphemy went round the campus.
