Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has denied that the minor skirmish reported at Sani Dingyadi Secondary School is linked to an attempt to abduct students.

The governor, who promptly rushed to the school, told newsmen that the incident was about a motorcycle thief that ran into the school premises while he was being chased by a group of people.

“The incident involved a motorbike thief who ran into the school when he was chased by some people,” Tambuwal said

He added that “In the ensuing melee, there was an unexpected entrance of the youths into the school premises, which scared the students, which made some call their parents, thinking it was a case of kidnapping.

Tambuwal later addressed the students and assured them of his government’s determination to ensure their safety at all times.

He also called on the people of the area not to panic and go about their lawful businesses without fear.

The Governor also indicated that the state Commissioner of Police and other security agencies in the state were on top of the situation.
