Fomer Nigerian head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida said the problems of current insecurity in Nigeria is leadership and the people in the country because there is disconnect between the two.

The former military ruler said this during an interview with Arise TV monitored by SAHELIAN TIMES earlier today, where he said there is core values in the country which everybody should consider as a symbol of one Nigeria.

“ I think the problem (insecurity) is leadership, there is disconnect between the leadership and the followership, there is disconnect when people relate with each other at various leadership level and talk about the community, about the state and about the federation. We don’t have core values which everybody depends, like you are a Nigerian this is what you believe and anything short of that your are not going to accept it. When we were in the military we talked about settled issues, (things that are not negotiable) issues about Nigeria, the unity of Nigeria as far as we concern was a settled issue, presidentialism was a settled issue, free market economy was a settled issue, the federation was also a settled issue, no body will come and say Nigeria is no longer a federation.

He said there is almost 100 conferences in this country that Nigerians sat down and talked about how to remain one nation and there are issues that we should not be talking about, right now we should be talking about how to strengthen what we have agreed, if we agreed with united Nigeria in the last 51 years why shall we be repeating about how we want to see our federation.

“We want to talk about the local government whether they should have free fund, whether they should govern themselves. We should be talking about how this could be achieved”
