Thousands of Northerners stranded in Shasha

Thousands of Northerners are left stranded at the palace of Sarkin Shasha, following the aftermath of the carnage that occurred at Shasha Market, Akinyele Local Government of Oyo State over the weekend.

SAHELIAN TIMES gathered that a large number of people, with unofficial numbers standing at 6000 that are living and trading in Shasha have taken refuge in the palace of Sarkin Hausawan Shasha and are in need of food and other necessary supplies.

In an interview with SAHELIAN TIMES, a source who preferred to remain anonymous due to his safety said that sNortherners have continued to seek refuge in the palace of the Sarkin Hausawa of Shasha in fear of their lives as it became dangerous to be seen by the hoodlums. “It became dangerous for us to move around as the hoodlums were targeting and killing Northerners.”

” We will need more security operatives around, to continue being safe, as the fear of uncertainty keeps rising”, he said.

At least 10 people have been reportedly killed, 70 sustained various degrees of injuries and over 30 declared missing in the wake of the attack, according to the market union leader.

Meanwhile, Northerners on the popular social media app, Twitter, have taken it upon themselves to crowdfund and render their help to the affected traders. People like Sani “Waspapping”, Mubarak Umar, Jibrin Ishaq and Surayyah Ahmed are the coordinators; receiving donations, disbursing them and collating the data of the victims. The funds collated are used to settle medical bills, pay transportation for people that want to travel to their home states and food supplies.
