Nigerian troops have, on Wednesday 7th January 2021, neutralized armed bandits that attacked Katarma village in Chikun Local Government Area and kidnapped mostly women.
According to the Commissioner of internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the bandits were engaged by local vigilantes before the troops subsequently arrived at the scene to rescue the situation.
Aruwan, however, said that four vigilantes were unfortunately killed during the gunfight, while three others sustained injuries.
Responding to the distress call, both air and “ground troops were deployed to the location, and the air component neutralized several bandits,” according to Aruwan’s statement.
Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has commended the troops’ swift response, and also sent his heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed by the bandits.
