The news of Mr Giuliani testing for positive for Covid-19 will no doubt demoralize the president’s legal team which has encountered several legal defeats these past few days.

Analysts have argued that with Giuliani out of the picture due to Covid-19, it is unlikely that the Trump legal team will recover from setbacks both within and outside the court room.

Mr. Giuliani has been acting as the lead lawyer for Mr. Trump’s efforts to overthrow the results of the United State recently concluded election.

He was part of Trump’s legal team during Mr. Trump’s impeachment hearing in December last year. Early this year, he undertook an unsuccessful trip to Ukraine to unearth alleged crimes by Hunter Biden, son to the newly elected President Joe Biden, in what was seen as an attempt to dig dirt on the Biden campaign. Giuliani’s actions sparked federal investigations.

Mr. Giuliani emerged as the most vocal defender of Trump after the presidential elections last month, leading other GOP lawyers in their bid to upturn Biden’s victory through the courts, an effort that has so far failed after various courts dismissed Trump’s judicial challenge.

Rudy Giuliani served as Mayor of New York City from 1994 – 2001. He was once regarded as a formidable presidential potential within the Republican Party.
