The lead negotiator between bandits and passengers on the Abuja-Kaduna train, Alhaji Tukur Mamu, has claimed that the Nigerian government intends to detain him in Egypt.

Mamu, who was released after being held captive for 24 hours by Egyptian authorities in Cairo, allegedly on orders from the Nigerian government, stated that he was on his way to Saudi Arabia for a lesser Hajj when he was apprehended.

Mamu told Daily Trust that he left Nigeria on Tuesday and that nothing incriminating was found in his possession after an investigation by Egyptian security agencies.

He implied that the Nigerian government intended to detain him in another country, similar to what happened to Sunday Igboho, but that this could not happen because the Egyptian government found that his papers were genuine.

SAHELIAN TIMES had earlier reported that, Mamu announced his withdrawl from the negotiations with the bandits after alleging that the Nigerian government had threatened his life and attempted blackmail.

Despite publicly announcing his departure, the paper discovered that he facilitated the release of more passengers.
