Kano State Government has failed to organize the keenly-awaited debate between the embattled and controversial scholar, Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara and Kano clerics, in two the weeks it had earlier announced.
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on the 7th of February, announced that he had accepted to facilitate a dialogue between Sheikh Kabara, and other opposing Islamic scholars in the state.
Ganduje, in a statement, further noted that those to be involved in the dialogue from all Muslim sects were given two weeks to prepare their points of argument/dialogue to engage Kabara in the much awaited dialogue.
The state government said it would provide a venue for the dialogue and the necessary security for the overall safety of the exercise before, during and after the event.
However, there’s no any sign that the dialogue would hold as scheduled.
Some of the clerics expected to participate have already downplayed their readiness to be involved with some of them even criticizing the government’s decision to organize the debate.
SAHELIAN TIMES has tried to get an update on the dialogue from the arrowhead of the preparation, the state’s Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Dr. Tahir Adamu, popularly known as Baba Impossible, but refused to comment on the issue.
Sheikh AbdulJabbar has been barred from preaching and leading prayers for allegedly falsifying authentic Islamic texts and trying to incite violence in the state.
