The incumbent, President Yoweri Museveni is in a sizeable early lead in a recent result released by Ugandan electoral board in the early hours of Friday.

So far, Museveni has 1,536,205 votes (65.02 percent) while Robert Kyagulanyi of opposition party has 647,146 votes, that is 27.39 percent from 8,310 polling units out of 34,684.

Museveni, who has wielded power since 1986, is seeking a sixth term against a stiff challenge from Bobi Wine, whose popularity among a youthful population has rattled the 76-year-old former rebel leader. Nine other challengers are also trying to unseat Museveni.

More than 18 million people have registered to take part in the polls. A candidate must win more than 50 percent to avoid a runoff vote.

Parliamentary polls are also being held on the same day
