The Westminster magistrate court in the UK ruled that David Ukpo, a supposed kidney donor for the daughter of Ike and Beatrice Ekweremadu, is not a minor.

The court gave the ruling on Thursday when Ekweremadu, a former deputy president of the Senate in Nigeria, and Beatrice, his wife, appeared before for trial.

Moreover, the defense attorneys notified the judge that they will be submitting a bail application during the first week of August.

The case was then adjourned until August 4 by the judge.

The case will now proceed to the Central Criminal Court in London, after approval from the UK attorney general.

The Senator representing Enugu West and his wife are facing charges bordering on conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

A high-powered Nigerian delegation was in court for the trial of the former Deputy Senate President.

Former Senate President David Mark, whom Ekweremadu worked with; former senate minority leader, Eyinnanya Abaribe; former Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba; and Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Adamu Bulkachuwa, were all in court.
