World leaders have been sending their congratulatory messages to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their victory in the 2020 US presidential election.
While congratulating Biden and Harris, former US president Barrack Obama said, “We’re fortunate that Joe’s got what it takes to be President and already carries himself that way. Because when he walks into the White House in January, he’ll face a series of extraordinary challenges no incoming President ever has – a raging pandemic, an unequal economy and justice system, a democracy at risk, and a climate in peril.”
In Nigeria, the former vice president Atiku Abubakar also joined the league of leaders congratulating the newly elected president. Atiku emphasized on US and Nigeria bilateral relationship. “Not only do I congratulate you on your victory, but I also urge you to build on US-Nigeria relations, especially on widening the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) for seamless interplay with the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA).”
The wife of the world biggest philantrophist and co-founder of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Melinda Gates also sent her congratulatory message to the Biden and Harris. “It’s true that our government still has a long way to go to reflect the diversity of our country. But now that we have elected Kamala Harris as the first woman and person of color to serve as Vice President, we are closer than ever before. What’s more, a record number of women ran for office and won this year.”
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, in his message to Biden and Harris said, the success of the duo is a signal that it is “time to get back to building bridges, not walls”, in an apparent dig at President Trump’s policy of building a wall on the US-Mexico border.
UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson also congratulated Biden and Harris, and stressed the importance of the transatlantic relationship. “Congratulations to Joe Biden on his election as President of the United States and to Kamala Harris on her historic achievement,” Johnson tweeted on his verified handle.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, extended a hand of fellowship while congratulating Joe Biden on becoming the 46th President of the United States. “Congratulations @JoeBiden on your spectacular victory! As the VP, your contribution to strengthening Indo-US relations was critical and invaluable. I look forward to working closely together once again to take India-US relations to greater heights,” PM Modi tweeted, along with a file photo of him meeting Joe Biden.
