The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University is enmeshed in a crisis over a petition sent to the university’s governing council on his alleged affairs with a graduating female student.

The petition was written by a Nigerian Army staff named Sultan Tahir II, who alleged that the VC, Professor Sanusi Mamman, had threatened his sister, a final year graduating female student of the university.

In the petition dated 27th September 2021, the author stated that his sister identified as Aisha Idris Tahir, who just completed 400 level in the university, “has been receiving calls and text messages from a person who presented himself as Prof. Sanusi Mamman and whom we believed is the VC of the university.”

He further complained that the VC had severally threatened his sister to deny knowing him or having any affairs with him to anyone that may call her from the university or else she would lose her degree.”

“The threats have put her and the entire family in serious worries as it is from a person that asked for her hand in marriage and later dumped her,” he wrote.

Tahir, who copied the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), sought for justice on the matter from the stakeholders.

Efforts to speak directly to the VC and the lady involved proved abortive, as their numbers were not reachable.

However, insiders have confirmed that the VC is having a running battle with staff over his perceived highhandedness in running the affairs of the university.
