Former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau’s Shura advisory council has endorsed his defection to the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP)

In an interview with SAHELIAN TIMES, the council spokesman Yakubu Yarima said that the agreement was reached unanimously at a meeting on Tuesday at the former governor’s residence.

“We just finished stakeholders meeting as is customary, and Sardauna arrived around 12:35 p.m. and presented what was at stake. We have finally agreed to decamp to the NNPP.

“As of today (Tuesday), we are no longer members of the APC; we have defected to the NNPP,” Yarima said.

SAHELIAN TIMES on Sunday reported that the former Kano State Governor and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso visited Senator Ibrahim Shekarau’s home to finalize the latter’s defection to NNPP.

Shekarau has been at loggerheads with the incumbent governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, leading to the formation of a faction within the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
