The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, has said that security forces have succeeded in foiling a major terror attack on Kano.
Irabor who spoke in an interview with Channels TV said that the terrorists were planning a massive attack until security operatives disrupted their preparations.
He further said that plan would have resulted in one of the country’s most “deadly attacks” ever if the terrorist had succeeded.
“We, in the course of the operation uncovered many arms and explosives they plan to use in some part of the country,” he said.
SAHELIAN TIMES had exclusively reported that a high-ranking commander of the Islamic State, West African Province (ISWAP) was nabbed by the security forces in Kano recently, raising concerns about how terrorists have been trying to infiltrate the state recently.
The Commander, identified as Mallam Abba, and his accomplice were apprehended at Samegu community in the state’s Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Abba, who was in charge of the sect’s recruitment and contact mobilisation, was suspected to be coordinating ISWAP’s activities in the state.
It could be recalled that on n May 17, an explosion in Aba Road, Sabon Gari of the state, killed nine people.
The cause of the explosion was revealed to be a gas cylinder before the police later blamed an improvised explosive device (IED).
Similarly, days after the tragic event the state police command announced that it has intercepted a vehicle fully loaded with Improvised Explosive Device, IED materials.
