The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed that it will continue to detain the Accountant-General Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, until the conclusion of their investigation.
According to an EFCC source, the AGF will be charged in court once the investigation is complete.
A source close to the anti-graft agency who did not want to be identified, the legal department of the commission obtained the order within 24 hours of Idris’ arrest in Kano, Daily Trust reported.
“He is still here with us, he has been cooperating. We will get to the root of the matter. The good thing is that our legal department has secured a court order helping us to hold him till we conclude our investigations,” the source said.
When asked about when he would be released, the official said Idris may be charged to court anytime, saying “evidence at our disposal is damning”.
He also stated that some of his properties in Abuja, Lagos, and Kano may be temporarily forfeited, but that the commission will also seek their permanent forfeiture to the federal government.
The Federal Government announced the suspension of the embattled accountant-general on Wednesday in order to allow for a thorough investigation.
In a letter conveying Idris’ suspension, Finance Minister Zainab Ahmed warned the embattled public official not to visit the office at any time.
