Facts are emerging on why the Speaker Gombe House of Assembly, Honourable Abubakar Sadiq Kurba was impeached, on Tuesday.

Kurba, was impeached by 16 out of the 24 members of the Assembly.

Sahelian Times gathered that the former Speaker was sacked over allegations of mismanagement and corruption.

He was allegedly accused of diverting over 1000 bags of rice meant for the House for his personal use.

The bags of rice were sent by the Federal Government to states assemblies’ leaders across the country in order to distribute as palliatives to their constituents.

The former Speaker, however, denied the allegations, arguing that the donated food items were categorically awarded to him as the speaker.

Other reasons, according to an insider familiar with the high-level political intrigues within the chamber include highhandedness and arbitrariness in the conduct of legislative business.

Our source further revealed that the former speaker would have been impeached before Tuesday if not for the intervention of the State Governor,  Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya.

However, recent allegations and deterioration in relationships between the impeached speaker and his colleagues made his exit inevitable.

Ismaila Uba Misilli, the Senior Special Assistant on Media, to Gombe State Governor in an interview with the Sahelian Times said the executive arm of the government has no stake in the impeachment.

He noted that the impeachment is completely a legislative affairs, without any involvement from the State Government.
