The Kano State gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has explained why he refused to comment about the new emirates crested by Gov. Ganduje.

In his online Facebook live chat program called Fashin Baki, which was anchored by Barr. Bulama Bukarti, Nasiru Zango, Jaafar Jaafar and Abba Hikima, he promised to study the situation and seek advice from experts on the newly created emirates.

In a response to a question about what he will do with the new emirates, Abba said, “I don’t want to pre-empt what I plan to do on this contentious issue, but I will form a committee of stakeholders to advise and guide us.”

Abba accused his opponents of making up stories that he had threatened to cancel the new emirates.

He noted that he has kept his mouth shut on the subject and does not recall ever making the claims.

“I have cordial relationship with the emirates. In my campaign, I always pay a courtesy visit to the traditional institution of every town with my team as the first thing,” added Abba while affirming his neutrality on the matter.

Recalled that in December 2019, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, signed into law a  bill  for the creation of four new emirates in the state.

The governor signed the bill at a special ceremony at Government House on Thursday, the same day it was unanimously passed by the state lawmakers.

The newly created emirates and first-class emirs include Gaya, Rano, Karaye and Bichi; making a total of 5 emirates in Kano state.

Pundits have viewed this controversial action as divisive and capable of ruining the 1000-year history of Kano emirate.
