The Imam of National Mosque, Professor Ibrahim Maqari, has given reasons for his decision to withdraw a defamatory suit he instituted against a Kano-based Islamic Cleric, Dr. Abdallah GadonKaya.

He hinted that he acted under pressure from respected individuals including Islamic and political leaders in the country.

The cleric, in a Video sighted by SAHELAIN TIMES, said that he was called upon by some respected political and religious leaders across the country.

Prof Maqari said, “We have indeed sued the personality and the court has since served him with notification, but some highly respected individuals, including my father and the DSS Director, have called and asked me to withdraw the case.

“It was not our intention to disgrace anyone, most especially someone who is identified as an Islamic cleric. We went to court not to disgrace anyone; our intention was to portray what the truth is.”

Maqari also noted that the DSS Director, and all those who reached out to him, pledged to call Sheikh GadonKaya to extract from him “the evidence he has in his possession” and, if he refused to support his assertion, “they will ask him to retract his (controversial) statement in writing publicy.”

SAHELIAN TIMES had reported that Professor Makari has sued Sheikh Abdullahi Gadon Kaya for N20m in damages over alleged defamatory statements made against him on the 23rd August, 2021 during the Abduljabbar Kabara’s case.

Gadonkaya had alleged in a sermon that Maqari hates the Sunnah of the Prophet (S.A.W) and that he shields people who insulted the Prophet Muhammad from public censure, among other wild allegations.
